Brookeside Montessori School

 

2008 - 2009 Faculty

 

Robin John, Head of School and Teacher: Robin began teaching at the Montessori Academy of PA in Boyertown in 1991. She is a graduate of  Ursinus College with a degree in Classics and taught Latin and Greek at the Elementary and Secondary level. Certified by the State Board of Private Academic Schools in Elementary Education, Robin also received her American Montessori certification from Chestnut Hill College. She has over twenty-five years' experience in administration and became the Head of School for Brookeside Montessori in 1995. Robin is the mother of two Montessori Academy of PA (now Brookeside Montessori) graduates.

Crystal Davis, Teacher: Crystal began teaching at Brookeside Montessori in 1999. She has a BS degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education from Kutztown University and holds a Pennsylvania teaching certificate from the Department of Education. Prior to Brookeside Montessori she has several years' experience teaching preschool children and substituting in public school classrooms. In 2002, she completed her Montessori training in Elementary (6 -9) from the North American Montessori Progressive Teacher Training Center. Crystal began studies at Princeton Center for Teacher Education this summer to earn credentials from the American Montessori Society.  

Miranda Sollinger,  Teacher: Miranda joined the staff of Brookeside Montessori in 1999 and has served in several different positions including Pre-K teacher, computer teacher, and Administrative Assistant. She earned her degree at Clarion University of PA in the areas of Elementary Education and Special Education. Miranda's previous work experiences have been as a therapeutic aide for Crawford County Intermediate Unit, running a satellite preschool program for Bethesda Children's Home, and working in with school-age children in an Afterschool Program at the Meadville YMCA.

Kris Barcus, Instructional Assistant: Kris has been affiliated with the school since 2004 as a parent of three daughters. She has been a  substitute teacher and preschool teacher at Brookeside Montessori. Kris has a BA in Elementary Education from Arizona State University. She worked as a Pre-School and Pre-K teacher for the Kyrene School District in Chandler, AZ. Also, she taught second grade for two years at the Teen Choice Leadership Academy in Phoenix, AZ.  She then taught Kindergarten at the Phoenix Advantage Charter School and was appointed Lead Teacher after just one year of teaching.  

Sandra Brile, Instructional Assistant: Sandra began her employment with Brookeside Montessori in 2000. She lives in the Boyertown area with her husband. Their three sons attended Montessori Academy of PA (now Brookeside Montessori). Sandra has several years' experience teaching in a church environment and advocates for children's services for special needs children. Sandra completed a seminar at Chestnut Hill College for Assistants in a Montessori classroom. 

Bea Johnson, Instructional Assistant: Bea began her involvement with Brookeside Montessori in 1997 when her granddaughter was in Preschool. Then in 1998 she started helping at the school. She worked in Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten, and Elementary classrooms. She has always been interested in the Montessori philosophy and enjoys watching the children learn and progress. 

Tina Moyer, Instructional Assistant: Tina began her employment at Brookeside Montessori in December 2005 as a Personal Care Assistant through the Berks County Intermediate Unit. For the past ten years, she has worked mainly with Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten aged children. Tina was employed by the Chesterbrook Academy for six years as part of the Nobel Learning Program. She also worked for two years in the Boyertown Area School District's Life Skills area. Tina truly loves working with special needs children and understands how special they really are - including her own nephew who has cerebral palsy and is deaf. Tina completed a seminar at Chestnut Hill College for Assistants in a Montessori classroom. 

Robin Naylor, Instructional Assistant: Robin began her connection with Brookeside Montessori school as a parent volunteer. She worked in the afterschool program and as a substitute teacher. Robin served in the Peace Corps and has several years' experience working with children, including a teaching position overseas.

Patty Stewartz, Instructional Assistant: In 2003 Patty began her employment with Brookeside Montessori. She has several years of experience in the child care field. Patty has been an Instructional Assistant in both the Elementary class and Preschool class. In the summer of 2005 Patty completed a seminar for Assistants in a Montessori classroom at Chestnut Hill College.

Erika Hornburg-Cooper, Art Teacher: Erika has been teaching art at Brookeside Montessori for over four years. She is part owner of Gallery on High in Pottstown, PA. The Gallery on High features local artists' work and conducts classes. Erika teaches children and adult classes there.  She has been working in various mediums since attending high school in Greenwich Village. She enjoys creating impressionist style works in oil and ink.

Mollie Larkin, Music Teacher: Mollie graduated from Mansfield University with a degree in Music Therapy and is Board Certified. She has provided Music Therapy services at Touch of Music, Pottstown, for eight years and also at Parkhouse Providence Pointe, Royersford. She teaches piano, saxophone, flute, clarinet, and Kindermusik. 

Maggie Megill, Wee Workout Instructor: Maggie is a certified aerobics instructor and has been teaching fitness classes for twelve years. She is certified by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. She also holds the Kids in Motion Specialty Certificate given by SCW Fitness Education. Maggie has been teaching a weekly aerobics program specially designed for 3 - 6 year olds at Brookeside Montessori since 2006.

Jennifer Moyer, Computer Teacher: Jennifer began teaching computer classes at Brookeside Montessori in 2006. She taught fifth grade students for five years at Spring-Ford Area School District. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Shippensburg University and her Master's Degree from Temple University.
